"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."

One of the hardest lessons I’ve had to learn is the importance of showing up—no matter how you feel inside. We pitched GridGuard AI (Solving the electric grid problem in South Africa) on stage in front of a room filled with industry leaders and government officials.

While we didn't take home the headline win, the truth is, we had already won just by being there.Out of over 1,000 participants, making it to the Top 10 Finalists in such a fiercely competitive initiative was a massive milestone. Competing alongside established businesses on that final stage showed me a completely new level of growth, especially as a final-year student.

As a young adult, occupying these spaces has been an incredible eye-opener. It has shown me what is possible when you step into rooms you never previously imagined you’d be in.I have my failures. I fall back because I am human. But no matter how many times I stumble, I refuse to be defined by the setback. As a close friend once reminded me: it's about how many times you get back up. The loss wasn't easy, and battling stage fright on that level was a massive challenge, but I am smiling because it happened. I am smiling because I was there.
